YAKITON (Roast pork meat & giblets) is actually more popular than yakitori for the average salaryman (business man). Almost everyone has their favorite place, but SAITAMAYA at HIgashi-Jujo is one of the best in Tokyo. People start to wait in line hours before it actually opens. Unless you are a regular and especially if its your first time here, owner/chef will only let you order your preferred drink, and will only serve you a 9 stick course of Yakiton, Gyu Nikomi, and salad. He won't even let you choose how well you want your Yakiton done.

埼玉屋 クレソンのサラダ
First, CURESON NO SALADA (Watercress Salad) for 420 yen comes out.

埼玉屋 nikomi
Next GYU NIKOMI (Beef stew) for 550 yen, then the 9 stick course for 1260 yen begins and here are a couple of them.

埼玉屋 カシラ s
KASHIRA (Cheek meat),

埼玉屋 ねぎ間 s
NEGIMA (Pork belly & Green Onion),

埼玉屋 上シロ s
SHIRO (Guts),

埼玉屋 シャモのサルサソース s
SHAMO NO SALSA SAUCE (Chicken with Salsa sauce),

埼玉屋 レバー s
LEBAH (Liver).

埼玉屋 タン刺し s
If you become a regular, you can order whatever you want and also order appetizers like TAN SASHI (Tongue Sashimi),

埼玉屋 ハツ刺し
HATSU SASHI (Heart Sashimi).

For drinks, I would suggest you to try NAMA LEMON SOUR, which is frozen Shochu with soda and fresh lemon juice. The wait can be long and you may not order what you want, but the owner/chef isn't cocky and is actually really nice even to first time customers. Many yakiton lovers will agree it is one of the top 3 yakiton restaurant in Tokyo and worth the train ride to just go eat here. I just wish that it was much closer to where I live cause I would be eating here at least once a week even if I had to wait for a hour or two. Also, its non smoking which is very rare for a yakiton restaurant.

hey there. been using your blog to great success. was not aware of the existence of yakiton until reading this. those sashimis look amazing.

you mention this is one of 3 top yakiton places in tokyo. could you share the other two? i'm hoping there's something close to shingawa, where i stay.

this is just my opinion but my two other will be BIRD LAND GINZA in Ginza and TORISHIGE in Shibuya. you won't get a seat at TORISHIGE unless you are a regular, but BIRD LAND you can. they use Open Table for reservations so go to their English website. also its not too far away from Shinagawa, but its very popular to say the least and you would probably need to book weeks in advance.

there should be many articles about Bird Land Ginza, but not too many about TORISHIGE. Torishige is probably the champion of all Yakitori restos, but only 5 people can sit, dirty as hell, but no resto even comes close to their quality and extra cheap prices.

my ranking from top to bottom is TORISHIGE, TORITAMA, BIRD LAND GINZA, but TORISHIGE a distance away from the other two for quality of yakitori, not interior or atmosphere though. place is a shack.

hope this helps.

sorry about that. i miss read your question. i thought you were asking for Yakitori, not Yakiton. if its Yakiton, its UCHIDA at Keisei-Tateishi, MOTSUYAKI JINCHAN at Hongo-Sanchome. both aren't close to your hotel, but MOTSUYAKI JINCHAN is closer that UCHIDA. couldn't find any article in English, but Jinchan opens at 6pm and is sold out usually by 8pm.

address is: 2-39-7 Hongo, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo
closed sunday, but if sunday is a holiday will close on monday instead
no credit cards or reservations.
seats only 10 people.

thanks for the info. they're all a long ways away, but will definitely be making the trip at some point. no way i can miss out on a proper yakiton.

and if you need some company for the two-hour wait for saitamaya. let me know.
