My favorite cuisine is RAMEN and my wife & I go out to have it at least twice a week. When I come back from an overseas trip, the first thing I always want to eat is ramen. In fact, many Japanese people are like me. Every ramen shop is different and there are over 30,000 ramen shops in Japan. Its cheap, quick, filling and called the people's food of Japan. Therefore, I will be introducing many ramen shops to you. To start is TONARI, which only serves Tanmen (ramen with stir fried vegetables on top).

tonari tanmen 1
Tanmen is usually found at Chinese restaurants, not at ramen shops. So, what makes Tonari's tanmen different from Chinese restaurants?

Soup is made out of pork, chicken and many other ingredients which makes it very rich in flavor, when most tanmen soups are light and clear. Also, noodles are much thicker than normal tanmen noodles. All this makes Tonari's tanmen one of its kind.

When your tanmen is ready to serve, one of the chef's will ask you if you want fresh chopped ginger (which is SHOGA) in it or not. Ask him to put it on a separate plate (just say BETSU-SARA-DE ONEGAI-SHIMASU) and not on top of the tanmen. Have some tanmen without ginger first and add a little later.

tonari karaage
You can also order it with Karaage (Fried Chicken), which they offer a set menu called TANKARA (Tanmen & Fried Chicken),

tonari gyoza 1
or with Gyoza (Pan fried dumplings), which the set menu is called TANGYO (Tanmen & Gyoza).

tonari menu 1
Most people order this set menu, but for people with a bigger appetite you can order a larger portion of noodles for 100 yen extra or bowl of rice for 80 yen.

tonari tsukemen
They also serve tsukemen type of tanmen called TANTSUKE, noodles are cold, served seperately from the soup, which is hot. You dip the noodle into the soup.

At lunch time there is a good wait, but not more than 30 min.
