Tourist visiting or ex-pat living here in Tokyo and sick of guides like Zagat on where to eat? If so, this blog is for you. Check where locals go to eat.
The first xiaolongbao restaurant which opened in Tokyo was the famous Din Tai Fung from Taipai, but another famous xiaolongbao restaurant from Taipei which opened in Ebisu several years ago is JINDINROU.
Xiaolongbao is a small steamed pork bun with soup inside. The proper way of eating it is to open the bun a little bit and drink some of the soup inside first and then eat the bun. Unless you can't eat pork I have never met a person who didn't enjoy it, especially at Jindinrou. XIAOLONGBAO is 790 yen for 6 pieces and 1,250 yen for 10 pieces.
The regular xiaolongbao is the most popular, but the bum also comes in Oolong tea flavor which is called OOLONG CHA XIAOLONGBAO for 950 yen.
They also have shark's fin xialongbao, which is FUKAHIRE XIAOLONBAO, 6 pieces 1,450 yen.
Other dim sum's like EBI MUSHI GYOZA (Steamed shrimp gyoza) for 950 yen,
MOCHIGOME SHUMAI (Steamed sticky rice shumai) for 950 yen to name a few.
Besides these dim sum's, they have many other dishes like YODAREDORI (Cold steamed chicken with spicy sauce) for 800 yen,
TAIWAN YASAI NO HOSHI EBI ITAME (Stir fired Taiwan vegetables with dry shrimp) for 950 yen,
TAIWAN MUSHROOM OYSTER SAUCE for 950 yen,
SU RAH TAN (Sweet and sour soup) for 750 yen,
or if you want some rice or noodles, SHANGHAI FUU YAKISOBA (Shangahai style chow mein) for 1,100 yen is good,
KANI TO LETTUCE NO CHAHAN (Crab meat & lettuce fried rice) for 1,500 yen and many other dishes are available, too.
They do have some Chinese desserts like CUSTARD MAN (Steamed custard cream bun) for 550 yen.
I personally like Jindinrou more than Din Tai Fung because of the variety of food they have besides xiaolongbao. But no matter what, you must order their regular xiaolongbao when dining at Jindinrou. I'm sure you would enjoy it
